A fantastic cabochon of cobalt blue titanium coated druzy quartz set in 14kt gold filled wire,and enhanced with one 5mm white topaz, and two beautiful 4mm blue zircon. The color in this stone is simply unbelievable, and the way the stone sparkles is mesmerizing. What is this coating on quartz that makes such beautiful gemstones. The process is called Particle Vapor deposition or PVD. While in a special vacum chamber the stones and the metals are manipulated with oxygen and various gasses to deposit the metals permanently onto the surface of the stones. This can also be done with other metals such as platinium or gold, and the colors can be controlled to create many different shades. The coating is quite durable, and with reasonable care should last a lifetime.
